30+ Bible Verses About Hoping in the Lord

Because of the hope we have in the Lord, we can be at rest here on earth.

  2. "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope." - Romans 15:13

Not only is our God the God of hope, but He also allows us to abound in hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.

  3. “You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in Your word.” - Psalm 119:114

  4. “And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.” - 1 John 3:3

Our hope is in the fact that Jesus is pure (righteous) and when He saved us, He gave us His righteousness. Likewise, if we are in Christ, we will strive to live a pure life just as He did.

  5. "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope." - Jeremiah 29:11

This verse was written while God's people were in exile for their sin. God sent them into exile for their sin, but He is also promising them they He has plans for them. They have a hope and a future.

It is, however, important to note that some of the people Jeremiah was writing to died while they were still in exile. Does this mean that God lied? No. Because "hope and a future" is what we have in eternity with God if we know Him. Regardless of the earthly status of God's people, they will always prosper, always have a hope, and always have a future in eternity.

  6. “Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.” - 1 John 3:2

This verse reiterates the eternal hope we have in the Lord. We are children of God and when we go to Heaven, we will be like Him and we will see Him clearly.

  7. "Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer." - Romans 12:12

Regardless of our situation here one earth, we can and should rejoice in the hope that we have. It is the greatest gift.

  8. “Looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.” - Titus 2:13

Our great God and Savior Jesus Christ is our blessed hope and we can look forward to His appearing.

If we wait for the Lord (meaning if we hope in the Lord), He will renew our strength.

  10. “In hope of eternal life which God, who cannot lie, promised before time began.” - Titus 1:2

Is there anything God cannot do? The Bible says that He cannot lie. And this God who can't lie promises that He will give His people eternal life.

  11. "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead." - 1 Peter 1:3

We have been born again to a living hope. Nuff' said.

  12. "For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope." - Romans 15:4

The Scriptures are a great encouragement to give our spirit hope as we live on earth.

  13. “But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation.” - 1 Thessalonians 5:8

The hope of salvation is a helmet for us to wear as we walk through this life. We are spiritually protected.

  14. “The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints.” - Ephesians 1:18

When God calls us to Himself, we receive hope and a glorious inheritance.

  15. “To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.” - Colossians 1:27

There is no other good place to put our hope. Our only hope is in the Lord.

  17. “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.” - 1 Corinthians 2:9

What God has prepared for us in eternity is so good that we cannot fully fathom it.

  18. "Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us." - Romans 5:2-5

Even in suffering we can stand firm in hope. This is because we know that the God of our salvation is good and trustworthy, and even uses our suffering for good. We can always rejoice in hope.

  19. “The LORD your God in your midst, the Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.” - Zephaniah 3:17

This verse doesn't specifically use the word "hope" but it still points to the hope we have that God will never leave us. He foes with us everywhere.

  23. "He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” - Revelation 21:4

When we get to Heaven there will be no more sadness or pain. Our hope is in a joyous, eternal, and perfect union with God.

  24. "So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal." - 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

Even when it feels like we are wasting away in this life (whether by sickness, pain, sadness, heartache, or loneliness) God continues to renew, help, encourage, and sanctify us spiritually. And as we read in verse 24, when we get to heaven we will no longer have to deal with that wasting away.
