Running to Win (Mug-Monday)

Monday, September 5, 2016

Happy Monday, wonderfuls! I hope you have today off and that you have been able to relax, have extra coffee, and do whatever you were hoping to do.
Taylor and I spent the weekend in the mountains with family and friends, and went to a wedding.

It was such a great trip- much, much needed, but weekends always seem too short. I love my job, and adore the little girl I watch, but it's human nature to crave more "me time" no matter how much we love our careers.

But I am learning that it doesn't help me at all to think, "Why does it have to be Monday!". Because as much as I enjoy my "me time", "hubby time", and "rest time", I also have goals, ambitions, and dreams that I am pursuing. And if I don't run to win, I will most certainly lose.

Running to Win

The phrase running to win is found in the Bible. In 1 Corinthians 9:24, Paul writes a letter to the Corinthian people urging them to live a life that wins. What he means, is that we can't just squander our lives away with nothingness. There are so many important, beneficial, and rewarding aspects of life, but if we don't run after them and work towards them, our life will be a loss.

I have today to be a godly influence to baby E. I can show her love, help her grow, and take care of her in a way that positively shapes the woman she will become. I wouldn't be able to do that if life was made up of only weekends.

I have today to grow my blog. I can keep writing, keep encouraging, and keep working towards this business. But to do that, I have to (and want to) work hard. I have to remember why I write (for God's glory) and when things get tough I have to keep going, keep improving, and keep working hard. That is running to win. And I can only do that if I keep my lazy days to a minimum.

I have today to enjoy my husband, to encourage him, and to grow with him. I can accomplish those things every single day of the week. I don't need a special set of circumstances to make that happen.

Take it to heart

The same is true of you. You have an opportunity today to live well, to do your best, and to run to win. But you cannot do that if you are stuck with a case of the grumpies over the fact that the weekend is over. You cannot do that if you are living for the next day that you are able sleep in.

So run well. Live today fully, working hard towards your goals, dreams, and purposes. You can do it if you set your mind to it, seek God for help, and stay rooted in Him and His truth. Run to win, friends. You won't regret it!

Have you been running to win lately?

  1. Yes! Yes! Yes! My verse this year has been Hebrews 12:1 and my word has been run. The meaning for me is to run the race marked for me. Not to look at what everyone else is doing and get distracted but to throw off things that distract, keep focused on the race before ME. In fact, I've been using the hashtag #runmyrace just to remind myself that this is about my calling and my journey but I want to do it well. Great post!!!
