25 Nations in 25 Days (Featuring Renee Young)

Christmas is about Jesus. He is who the entire holiday centers around. And then beyond that, family and giving. But if you could take even a tiny little glance at my heart, it often gets things a bit mixed up regarding the holiday. Instead of focusing on giving, I think about getting. Instead of thinking of how I can bless others, I think about how I can see my loved ones and do as many fun things as possible. And then there's Jesus. "Oh hai, Jesus".
I'm ashamed to admit it. It's sad. And what's even more sad, is that I know I am not in the minority here. So, so many Christians join me in this predicament. We want to honor Christ above all, and yet somehow we always end up putting other, less meaning things ahead of him.
Of course, God gives grace to His people. He forgives and He continues to help us improve and grow. We as Christians are all on this faith journey together and we are here to lift each other up, to encourage one another in righteousness, and to point each other towards God.
And that's why it's so important to recognize and appreciate the areas in which we get it right- where God's people are rightly pointing to Him instead of to themselves. And today's post was inspired by a woman who has been doing just that.
I met Renee online a few years ago. I was immediately inspired by her heart and passion for the Lord. We become social media and blog friends, and still talk via Instagram and Facebook.
Related: Check out Renee's blog: Mulling Over my Morning Coffee
One thing that has always struck me about Renee, is that when she writes, you can tell that it really is for Jesus. She isn't trying to sound ultra-spiritual, nor is she trying to gain attention. Instead, she is trying to point to God, to truth, and to all that will motivate towards righteousness. I am encouraged by pretty much everything she posts. And of course, that's God working through her and it's all Him, BUT He uses her sweet, fun-loving heart to deliver an eternal message.
So, why do I bring any of this up? Because recently, Renee launched a brilliant idea that is open to whoever would like to join.
Enter 25 Nations in 25 Days
25 Nations in 25 Days is a Facebook group and downloaded PDF that Renee created as a "tool for helping to ignite a heart for the nations. 42% of the world's people groups are still unreached (less than 2% Evangelical Christian). This should be a startling statistic for us to see as believers. How neat to have a tool that educates us on those people groups and encourages prayer within the family FOR those people".I asked Renee to talk a little bit about why she decided to create this project for all of us, and this is what she said:
"I decided to compile the information on unreached peoples and various nations because I think it's important to know about cultures outside of American society. I also hope to cultivate a heart in my children that is for missions and for people who don't believe, act, speak, or look like we do. I believe this is a great starting point. I think we get so focused on how "unfair" and how "hard" life is in the United States that we forget that nearly 1/2 of the entire world has never even heard of Jesus. And while our hardships are valid in a sense, we need to focus on what is eternally significant. There are millions of people that still have zero parts of the Bible translated into their language.
Our problems become minuscule when we are concerned with what's going on on a global spectrum (even if your global perspective starts with meeting your next door neighbor and befriending them for the sake of the gospel).
While compiling this information, my heart began to ache as I was forced to face the fact that most of the nations covered are animistic, meaning they worship nature and spirits and ancestors and rocks. Some of the religious beliefs of these people groups will hopefully wreck you. My hope is that anyone who walks through this "25 Nations in 25 Days" would have a heart burdened for the spiritual darkness in the world, that they would be moved to action locally, nationally, and globally for the cause of making Christ's name great, and that they would consider giving their physical and financial resources to Bible Translation and Global Missions."
Peculiar friends, I am so excited about going through 25 Nations in 25 Days with Renee and a bunch of other awesome people. Will you join us? You can scroll through the PDF below, you can download the PDF here, and you can join the Facebook group here. I hope to see you there!

For the past few weeks I've flooded the blog with Christmas posts. I've had everything from the Ultimate List of of Sweets and Treats to a post dedicated to the True Meaning of Christmas. But within most of these posts, there's one recurring theme that I keep coming back to: slowing down and enjoying the holidays.
Not to sound like a broken record over here, but we are nearly halfway through December! Two more weeks to enjoy Christmas time and then POOF! It's gone for another 365 days.
If you are like me, you've got about 5 bajillion things left to do before Christmas, so I totally get it. I have no idea how I am going to get it all done and as much as I've talked about and fought against a hectic holiday, here I am stressin'!
But I STILL believe that we can slow down and enjoy the rest of the holidays. I think there are ways in which we can still embrace Christmas cheer.
Turn on that Christmas Music
Whether you are at home, in the car, or at work (if it's feasible) turn on that Christmas music, folks! Let it play pretty much non-stop and make sure to sing.Singing is a stress-reliever for a lot of people, so use those lungs to loosen you up and get you feeling more cheery.
Plug in the Tree
Guys, there's very little that I enjoy more than plugging in the Christmas tree when I get home from work, turning off all other lights, and taking a few minutes to relax.
Whether I just sit back admiring the tree, sip some hot chocolate (Mint Chocolate by Land O' Lakes is most fantastical 😉), or work on my blog- having the tree as the main source of lighting is just so beautiful. Sometimes it even feels therapeutic. Trust me, friends. Take the time. It'll lift your spirits!
Decide to Finish Your Shopping at ONE Store
I LOVE Christmas shopping. I love picking out gifts specifically tailored to each loved one. But sometimes I can get carried away and I end up going from place to place to find the perfect gift. However, when I'm in a hurry and running behind on my Christmas to-do list, going from place-to-place adds more stress. There's no shame in getting all of our gifts from one place. In fact, places like Walmart, Target, Sam's Club, Costco, Marshall's, Etc. have such a large variety that it's pretty easy to find something for almost everyone on the list. Plus, all of those places are fairly budget-friendly.
So if you are scared you won't get everything done, cut down some of your stress by picking one location to buy the rest of your gifts.
Choose Your Parties and Events Intentionally
Around the Holidays, it seems like there is a party, a cookie swap, or a light show every night in December. For me, it's extremely tempting to sign myself up for all of them, but I already know how that ends - with a very exhausted and cranky Kristin. Not pleasant, right?
I think it's important to remember that savoring the season means that we are more intentional about what we are doing, which will result in more enjoyment of the events we do decide to take part in.
So choose the one cookie swap or tree lighting that you think you will enjoy the most. Attend a party or two, but decide which ones sound like the most fun and choose those.
Rest, Rest, Rest
Okay friends- this last point is a biggie. No one wants to spend Christmas with the Wicked Witch of the West. But if you don't rest, that'll end up being you. So calm down, take a breath, and be okay with taking some time to rest when you get home from work.Yes, there's stuff to do, but if you look at your list you will probably find that not everything is a necessity. Cut those things out or at least put them off. Rest your feet, rest your eyes, and just calm down.
Exploring the Gingerbread Houses at The Grove Park Inn

In 2009 when I started my undergrad at Montreat college (and dating Taylor), I began hearing little tid-bits about The Grove Park Inn and the wonderful Gingerbread display they have every year before Christmas.
The Grove Park Inn is the most gorgeous resort and spa I have ever seen. It is nestled in the Mountains of Asheville, North Carolina and built with large, shimmering stones (sorry to any geologists out there who know the name of said stones and are cringing at my lack of knowledge 😜). It has a large lobby with huge fireplaces on each end of the room. The fireplaces are so big you could stand in them (minus the fire, ya know).
The first time I went, I fell completely in love with the location, the architecture of the building itself, and those stinkin' adorable gingerbread houses. Many of them are genuine works of art. The detail is impeccable and impressively enough, every one of the houses are 100% edible.
Grove Park Gingerbread Houses
This year was special to me because I was able to share the experience with my mom and brother. I've been with Taylor and several friends over the years, but to get to welcome my family into that world and see them experience it for the first time made my heart happy.
I think that's what I missed the most during college. Throughout my life, I have always been able to share my friends, my hobbies, and my daily activities with my mom (and whole family). She loved my friends and my friends loved her, and we welcomed her to spend time with us. When I wanted to go to an event, my mom would come with me. We shared a lot together. So when my family was too far away for that to happen when I went to college, I craved it so badly.
Getting to share this part of my life with them meant a lot to me for that reason.
And as you can see from the pictures, it was amazing. I cannot imagine having so much talent with baking and decorating!
So if you are ever in the Asheville area around Christmas, you should definitely make the trip to see the gingerbread houses. It's totally worth it!
Does your city have anything like this available to the public? Which "house" is your favorite?

What is the True Meaning of Christmas? | Jesus Is More Than a Baby
Wednesday, November 30, 2016
45 comments
Christmas is about more than traditions. Christmas is about Jesus coming down to earth, chasing after us, and providing us with exactly what we needed. Christmas is about more than just a baby - Christmas is about sacrifice, love, and joy. Though we do celebrate the birth of Christ at Christmas, we are also celebrating the sacrifice Jesus made to save us from our sins. Christmas is about all that Jesus has done, not just His birth.
I've been having so much fun lately with the Christmas lights, the happy overload of both Christmas cookies and Christmas music, and the wonderfully bad, low-budget Christmas movies. I am officially in Kristin-Christmas-Tradition-Heaven.
It's such a great feeling to truly enjoy all of the holiday scents, tastes, noises, and sights. I get warm-fuzzies every time I think about it. And even though I'm thankful for those things, at some point, the warm-fuzzies have to take a backseat, because at the core what we really need is a deep reflection on the true meaning of Christmas.
It is entirely possible to embrace tradition and reflect on the deeper things of life at the same time. In my pondering and celebrating the real meaning of Christmas, I will still be eating just as many cookies, singing just as many songs, and watching just as many Christmas movies. But while doing this, I will make sure that the more important things in life come first and are not replaced by the things that matter much less.
Jesus Is the Reason for the Season | What Does That Really Mean?
It's true that Jesus is the reason for the season. But I'm sure you've heard that phrase a million times and you may be thinking, "Yeah, but what does that really mean?"The story of Jesus' birth is found in Luke 2 in the Bible. If you've never read it, or you need a refresher, you can read it here.
A lot of people "know" that Christmas is about Jesus - a little baby who was called the son of God, and born in a stable. Great. But many people don't go past that.
The thing is though, it's when you go past the basics that you truly begin to understand the meaning of Christmas. Go past the fact that Jesus was born to a young girl who had never had sex. Go past what you know about wise men, bright stars, and a feeding trough for a bed. Then you will start to see the point of this beautiful holiday season!
Guilt and Love | Why Jesus Came
From the very beginning of our lives, we are sinful people. We aren't innocent. We aren't good enough. We make mistakes every day that pull us further and further away from God.But since God loves us, He wanted to bring us back to Him. However, He is a holy God and He couldn't just act like our sin was acceptable - because it's not. He needed a perfect person to take the punishment we deserved: death and eternal separation from God.
God knew that if He didn't step in, our sin would keep us from Him, from His love, and from experiencing his goodness and glory for all of eternity. But thankfully, our God isn't helpless. Our God wasn't scrambling around trying to figure out what to do. He already had a plan. He already had the perfect solution to our soul-devouring sin. He had His Son.
Complete Perfection | Jesus Is the Perfect Response to Sin
As baby Jesus grew up, He never sinned. He was human, and yet He was God at the very same time. He stood firm against the sins that we give into. He was the only perfect person. So when the Jews decided to kill Jesus, they were killing a perfect, spotless man.
God planned the death of Jesus as a sacrifice for all sin. Jesus took our death sentence and He served it Himself. Since Jesus is God in the flesh, He was actually able to defeat the death sentence He was serving for us.
Death, which was meant to be an irreversible and final event, was defeated and conquered. It was for us. It was for me. And it was for you.
We no longer have to pay the penalty of sin - Jesus already did.
God did all of the work. The only thing He requires of us is that we believe and trust in Jesus as the savior - that His death paid the full penalty of our sins just like God said it did. All we have to do is trust in Jesus and His blood as the saving grace we desperately need.
That is the gospel in a nutshell, and the gospel is what Christmas is all about.
It's not about how many wise men went to see Jesus when He was born. It's not even about the fact that Jesus' mom was a virgin (though that is important). Christmas is about a Savior - the only Savior - who came to live, die, and defeat death for us. Christmas is about God's goodness, despite our utter and constant failure. Christmas is about the cross.
Check Your Response | Is Your Heart Focused on Christ?
Christmas is a humbling experience. I don't like being told that I am a sinner, but I know it's true.I look out for myself instead of others. I care far too much about my weight, my curves, my personality, and other people's opinions. I try to appear better than I actually am. I complain about nearly everything that doesn't go my way.
And chances are, you do the same things, because you are a sinner too. You and I are imperfect people, in need of a Savior.
So check your response. Don't be mad that God confronts you and your sin. Instead, be thankful that you don't have to serve your death sentence. Accept Jesus as the Savior He is. Spend Christmas with new-found joy that you don't have to be handcuffed to your sin anymore.
Christmas is about praising God because He gave us what we needed. God is love. That is what Christmas is really about!
What Is Christmas Really About?
- Christmas is about sin
- Christmas is about death
- Christmas is about redemption and salvation
- Christmas is about God's love for us
- Christmas is about God's glory
- Christmas is about the sacrifice Jesus made for us
- Christmas is about God
How to Deal with Difficult Family During the Holidays
Monday, November 28, 2016
20 comments
Are the holidays a stressful time because you have a dysfunctional or dramatic family? Do you know how to deal with difficult family members during the holidays? Learn how to deal with your difficult family over the holidays in a Biblical, Christ-like way.
I'm extremely thankful (for many reasons) that I have a really good family with far less drama than most people I know. I am well-aware that if I was in a more dysfunctional situation, I would be tempted to get myself into all sorts of trouble.
But what if you are in a volatile situation? What if you have a mother who closely rivals Emily Gilmore? (guess what I've been watching...). What if it's even worse than that? I am so thankful that the holidays are a fun time for me and my family, but for many, the holidays are the most terrible time of the year.
So in that situation, how does a person manage to be a light for their family? How does someone remain Christlike when dealing with difficult people? Are there biblical principles to follow?
Why I Start Celebrating Christmas Before Thanksgiving (and a FREE playlist)

It was 79 degrees outside and the leaves were all still bright green. Most people were in shorts and flip-flops- myself included. But it was October and I was craving the cold. I was craving warm sweaters, crunchy leaves, chilly evenings, and soup. Lots and lots of soup.
I also had a great desire for something to lift my spirits, brighten my day, and make me feel all warm and fuzzy on the inside. And that's when I knew- it was time to crank up my A/C, wrap up in my snuggie, and play all my favorite Christmas tunes.
But every year when I start to feel that ache, I always know that people will act as if I had just murdered someone for listening to "Winter Wonderland" or "Mary Did You Know" before Black Friday. You'd think I had just told them I had kidnapped someone's child or something.
But there are two main reasons why I celebrate Christmas early, and I'd love to get the chance to explain myself. 😉
December: Goals and Enjoyment

Hello all you beautiful people! Can you believe that December is already here?! I can't. It doesn't seem that long ago since Taylor and I moved to Charlotte, but that was back in August when the weather was still stiflingly hot! It's crazy!
December is filled with lots of fun times, yummy smells, and cheerful activities. And as enjoyable as all of that, it can make it difficult to focus on goals and the things we hope to accomplish. So before I get too "merry and bright" I want to take a minute to reflect on last months goals and establish some for this month.
November Goals
1.) Read the Bible 2 times per week
I dwindled a little on audio Bible for the month of November, though I still listened. I want to pick that back up to around 4 audio Bible sessions/week and then 1-2 physical, bible-in-hand devotional times. Good grief...why is it so difficult to get disciplined!? I am glad, however, that my blogging niche is in Christian lifestyle. That means that when I am reading other people's blogs, I am essentially reading devotionals. Now of course, that should never, ever replace my Bible time, and most bloggers are not theologians, but it still helps.
2.) Meet my Weight Goal
Yeah... we are just going to forget about this until after Christmas...
3.) Cook at least 4 times per week
I definitely did better this month. Taylor and I cooked way more meals at home and did more baking too. The other day I ended up cooking breakfast, lunch, and baking cookies. I was super proud of myself!
4.) Blog 4 times per week
Yes! I was so happy with my blog goals for November! I joined a few new blog groups, I grew my daily readership and I blogged 4-5 times per week. Woot woot!
Blog Pageviews- 3,503 (Increased by approximately 1,447 views).
I am so pleased with the month of November. I definitely want and need to keep it up!
Twitter- 201 (increased by 14). I really have been trying to do a little more with Twitter. I think it has helped with some of my recent blog traffic, which makes it a little more difficult to hate it.
Instagram- 330 (increased by 31). I have been a little frustrated with Instagram lately, but I am trying to keep at it, and I honestly didn't realize I had grown so much this month.
Bloglovin'- 188 (increased by 18). I am glad I gained 18 followers, but Bloglovin' has slowed down for me a bit, and I am not sure how to pick it back up. Again though, I am thankful for the growth!
Goals for December
Read the Bible: Continue to get better, as I mentioned above.
Continue to Cook: I was proud of myself (and Taylor) for cooking more home made meals this past month, and I want to do even better in December.
Improve my Shop: I want to add at least 5 more items to my Etsy Shop.
Spruce Up My Sponsorship Page: Summer from Coffee with Summer shared some great advice about how to really make the most of your sponsorship program. Since I am new to this, I need to implement a lot of her advice.
Find Sponsors: I really want to find a few sponsors so that I can continue improving my blog. It's a lot of work and costs money to make it better. If anyone is interested in sponsoring, click this link to find out more.
Continue to Blog Consistently: I want to continue blogging at least 4 times/week. I am loving the results I've seen from it!
Now, I want to make these things happen, and I feel confident I can if I work hard. The same is true for you and your goals too. But don't forget to celebrate. Christmas is a fun time to enjoy, and a reverent time to give thanks and share hope. Don't get so caught up in having fun that you forget your goals, but don't miss out on the celebration because you are glued to your goals either. Find the balance this holiday season and enjoy!
Sending Out Snail Mail for Christmas

Christmas time often yields a card or two, making an already-exciting holiday even more exciting. And now that Taylor and I are married (it's our second Christmas), I really want to send out cute, personalized Christmas cards. Any other newly-married couples with me on that?
As Black Friday approaches, I know there are going to be all sorts of ads for presents, gift wrap, recipe books, and Christmas cards. There are an umpti-bazillion (sure...that's a number) places you could turn to buy those cute cards, but one place I am loving is Minted. Minted has all sorts of holiday cards, post cards, stationary and gifts. They offer personalized cards and post cards with hundreds of styles and colors to chose from.
Minted is known for having unique designs made by independent artists, and being able to customize those looks to fit your own needs. Here are a few of my favorites for this Christmas:
I love this post card for it's simplicity. The color at the bottom gives it a Christmas feel without adding too much, you can add your own little note, and the script adds an elegant touch.
I absolutely adore the Christmas tree text. It's fun, a little quirky, but still not overdone. How cute would that be to send to your friends and family?
This Christmas card comes in several different colors and features Luke 2 as it's text. You can also add your personalized text at the bottom. If you are looking for a more blatantly Christian card, this one is a great choice.
One of my favorite Christmas songs is "O Holy Night", and my favorite color is purple, so I am loving this card. You can personalize the "Merry Christmas From:" at the bottom, and you also can personalize the back of the card. This comes in a few more colors if you don't love purple as much as I do.
Isn't this gorgeous?! I love the color combo and I love the word "Noel", which means "news" in French. I love that Christmas is all about bringing the news of hope to the world.
With this card you can chose from a few other colors (black, green, and red).
Though these were my top 5 cards at Minted, there are so many different options. I highly recommend checking them out. They have post cards, mini-post cards, foil-pressed cards, ornament cards, and more. Use this link to check it all out!
I am getting really excited about sending out cards, putting up the Christmas tree with my hubby, baking cookies, and listening to LOTS of Christmas music.
What traditions do you have? Are you sending out cards this year?
